Pessary Assistant™ (Patent# D814,031)
A one-of-a-kind device, designed to aid in the handling, placement, and removal of vaginal ring pessaries.
Invented by Dr. Chris Radpour, MD after observing that many of his patients who used pessaries experienced difficulty inserting or removing them—particularly those with reduced hand strength or dexterity—the Pessary Assistant™ was developed to make the process easier and more accessible.
Created with input from gynecologists, urologists, and pelvic-floor specialists, the device assists in both placement and retrieval of ring pessaries (with or without support, incontinence pessaries, and other similar designs). The newest version was also specifically designed to hook the stem of a Gellhorn pessary.
Now manufactured from medical-grade polypropylene (PP)—a slightly softer and more flexible material than earlier models—it offers improved durability, gentle flexibility, and dependable control during use.
Especially helpful for users with limited hand strength, the device features:
1. A “Pessary Assist” or “U” side, which holds a folded ring pessary in position for placement.
2. A “Pessary Hook” or “C” side, designed to help engage and retrieve a ring pessary—or the horn/stem of a Gellhorn pessary—from the vaginal canal.
“Pessary Assistant really helps!!”

About Dr. Radpour
Chris Radpour, MD is a practicing, Board-Certified Ob/Gyn physician with Galen Medical Group in Chattanooga, TN.
Over the years, several of Dr. Radpour’s patients who used pessaries shared that they often struggled to place or remove them—especially those with limited hand strength, dexterity, or arthritis.
Motivated to find a solution, Dr. Radpour conceived and hand-sketched what would become the Pessary Assistant™, a simple, effective aid to make handling pessaries easier. He then engaged Leslie Passons and Mickey Stewart to prepare professional CAD engineering drawings that translated his concept into precise production specifications.
The result was the first patented pessary placement and retrieval aid, designed to simplify pessary handling for both patients and clinicians.
The latest version is manufactured from medical-grade polypropylene (PP)—a slightly softer and more flexible material than earlier models—making it easier to handle while maintaining durability and precision.
The updated design allows users to grasp and release pessaries of various shapes and sizes, including ring pessaries with or without support, incontinence pessaries, and knob pessaries, and is also shaped to assist in retrieving the horn of a Gellhorn pessary.
